1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives were
3 saddened to learn of the death of Donald G. Harry of
4 Champaign, who served as the first Champaign County Auditor,
5 on Wednesday, July 15, 1998; and
6 WHEREAS, He was born in Champaign on December 24, 1926,
7 the son of Lawrence W. and Myrl Williams Harry; and
8 WHEREAS, He graduated from Illinois Commercial College in
9 1948; he was employed at the First National Bank of Ogden and
10 then served as the assistant Champaign County Treasurer
11 before his election as Auditor; and
12 WHEREAS, Mr. Harry served as the Champaign County Auditor
13 from the time the post was created in 1952 until 1976; he was
14 a village trustee in Savoy from 1985 to 1987, served as
15 Savoy's mayor in 1987 and as Savoy's Treasurer from 1988 to
16 1990, and was appointed Champaign Township Supervisor in
17 1991; and
18 WHEREAS, He was a veteran of World War II and was a
19 member of the Illinois Association of Township Officials; he
20 began serving on the Association's executive board in 1969
21 and was installed as its president in 1975; and
22 WHEREAS, He retired from the State of Illinois Department
23 of Aging in 1983; and
24 WHEREAS, He was a member of the Ogden Masonic Lodge No.
25 754, the Scottish Rite Valley of Danville, Ansar Shrine, the
26 Illini Shrine Club, American Legion Post 998, and the
27 Champaign-Urbana Elks Club; and
28 WHEREAS, His passing will be deeply felt by his wife,
29 Shirley; his sons, David and Richard; his daughter, Diana
30 Williams; and his three grandchildren; therefore, be it

1 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
2 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
3 mourn with deep respect the death of Donald G. Harry and
4 extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends; and
5 be it further
6 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7 presented to Shirley Harry.
