90_HR0597 LRB9012683KBkb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Francis 4 Callahan of Milford, who passed away on July 20, 1998; and 5 WHEREAS, Francis Callahan was born in Milford on November 6 13, 1920; his parents were Joseph and Helen Meyer Callahan; 7 on October 31, 1948 he married Elaine Thompson; and 8 WHEREAS, Mr. Callahan was a breeder of champion purebred 9 hogs for over forty years; he was a nationally known hog 10 judge and pork promoter; and 11 WHEREAS, Mr. Callahan grew up on a farm in Milford; he 12 began showing livestock at the age of five; in 1945 he showed 13 the grand champion barrow at the International Livestock Show 14 in Chicago; Mr. Callahan showed a champion that went on to 15 become a national celebrity when the governor took it on a 16 trade mission to the Soviet Union; and 17 WHEREAS, Mr. Callahan judged swine in thirty-seven 18 states; he served as swine superintendent of the 19 International Livestock Exposition; he was a member of the 20 State Fair Board; he was founder of the Fighting Illini Pork 21 Club at the University of Illinois, which serves pork in the 22 press box during every home game; Mr. Callahan was also 23 awarded honorary membership in the Varsity I Association; and 24 WHEREAS, Mr. Callahan was Democratic chairman of Iroquois 25 County for fifteen years, and a Democratic precinct 26 committeeman for twenty years; and 27 WHEREAS, Mr. Callahan was a member of Our Savior Lutheran 28 Church in Milford; he is survived by his wife, Elaine; his 29 daughter, Colleen Callahan Burns; a granddaughter; his 30 brother, Eugene Callahan; and his two sisters, Neta Erdman 31 and Jody Pruitt; therefore, be it -2- LRB9012683KBkb 1 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 2 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 3 mourn, along with his family and friends, the death of 4 Francis Callahan; may they find peace and comfort in this 5 time of need; and be it further 6 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 7 presented to the family of Francis Callahan.
