90_HR0596 LRB9012397CBcb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of this Body were saddened to learn 3 of the of George T. Frampton, professor emeritus at the 4 University of Illinois College of Law, on Saturday, May 23, 5 1998; and 6 WHEREAS, He was born on March 24, 1917 in Brooklyn, New 7 York, the son of Harry V. and Mary Louise Fottrel Frampton; 8 he graduated from Scarsdale (N.Y.) High School, Duke 9 University, and Duke Law School; and 10 WHEREAS, A veteran of World War II, he served as an 11 attorney in Washington for the Office of Price 12 Administration; in 1953-54 he was a teaching fellow at 13 Harvard Law School; and 14 WHEREAS, Professor Frampton joined the University of 15 Illinois College of Law in 1954 after practicing law in New 16 York City; after retiring in 1987, Professor Frampton served 17 as an arbitration panelist with the American Arbitration 18 Association and with the Champaign County Court Appointed 19 Special Advocate Inc. on behalf of children; and 20 WHEREAS, During the student unrest in the early 1970s at 21 the University of Illinois, Professor Frampton served as vice 22 chancellor for campus affairs at the University of Illinois 23 campus; and 24 WHEREAS, He served for many years as legal counsel to the 25 Living Tao Foundation, having been a longtime practitioner of 26 the art of tai chi chuan; and 27 WHEREAS, He had served as a visiting professor at the law 28 schools of New York University, Stanford University, the 29 University of California at Berkeley, and the Salzburg 30 Seminar in American Studies in Austria; and -2- LRB9012397CBcb 1 WHEREAS, He was a member of the Champaign County and 2 American Bar Associations, the Association of the Bar of the 3 City of New York, Dial Club, American Association of 4 University Professors, and the Community United Church of 5 Christ; and 6 WHEREAS, His passing will be deeply felt by his family 7 and friends, especially his wife, Margaret; his son, George 8 T. Frampton, Jr.; his daughter, Mary Louise Frampton; four 9 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and his sister, 10 Muriel Trickett; therefore, be it 11 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 12 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 13 note with sorrow and regret the death of George T. Frampton 14 and extend to his family and friends our sincere condolences; 15 and be it further 16 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 17 presented to Margaret Anne Frampton.
