90_HR0570 LRB9012404CBcb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, James "Skinny" Sheahan was named Director of the 3 Mayor's Office of Special Events for the City of Chicago in 4 1992, succeeding the late Kathy Osterman; and 5 WHEREAS, James Sheahan, as Director of the Mayor's Office 6 of Special Events, coordinated such notable events as the 7 1994 World Cup, the 1996 Democratic National Convention, the 8 annual Taste of Chicago, and the Air and Water Show, as well 9 as dinners for the King of Norway, the President of France, 10 and the President of Ireland; and 11 WHEREAS, During his tenure, James Sheahan developed a 12 comprehensive, year-round operation for the Mayor's Office of 13 Special Events, including the first Chicago Celtic Festival, 14 WinterBreak, Holiday Hoops, Skate on State, and the Mayor's 15 Cup Youth Soccer Tournament, as well as 14 annual ethnic 16 parades and 80 neighborhood festivals; and 17 WHEREAS, James Sheahan also created the Sports 18 Development Office thereby returning big-time college 19 basketball events, such as the Great Eight and the Big Ten 20 tournaments, to Chicago; promoted 200 walkathons, runs, and 21 bike-a-thons; and hosted the world's largest Triathlon; and 22 WHEREAS, James Sheahan resigned his position as Director 23 of Special Events effective January 15, 1998 to accept a new 24 post with the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority that 25 will provide new challenges and new opportunities to serve 26 the City of Chicago and our State; therefore, be it 27 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 28 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 29 commend James Sheahan for his loyal and dedicated work as the 30 Director of Special Events and congratulate him on his new 31 post with the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority; and -2- LRB9012404CBcb 1 be it further 2 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 3 presented to James Sheahan as an expression of our respect 4 and esteem.
