1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to congratulate Evergreen Outreach in
4 Vandalia on receiving a placement in the Governor's Home Town
5 Awards Project; and
6 WHEREAS, The First United Methodist Church in Vandalia
7 has made Evergreen Outreach a ministry project; every Monday
8 nursing home residents and home bound residents are bussed
9 into the church for a two-hour party at the church hall;
10 music, group participation activities, a short devotional, a
11 time of individual recognition honoring birthdays and get
12 well wishes, refreshments, a junior olympic corner, and an
13 artists' corner are all presented to the guests; and
14 WHEREAS, This event is used to re-establish residents'
15 personhood; Evergreen Outreach has been active for eighteen
16 years, and has never missed a day; there are 65 to 70
17 volunteers, including entertainers and kitchen staff, running
18 the day's activities; the volunteers are all from different
19 churches throughout the community and from outside Vandalia
20 as well; and
21 WHEREAS, The bus is supplied by operation OUTING; the bus
22 also brings in people from FAYCO, a sheltered work place;
23 more than 100 individuals each week attend the party; and
24 WHEREAS, Evergreen Outreach will be honored at the
25 Governor's banquet on June 17, 1998; therefore, be it
26 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
27 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
28 thank Evergreen Outreach and its many volunteers for a job
29 well done; when they take time each week to help others then
30 they deserve recognition and congratulations; and be it
31 further
