90_HR0526 LRB9012292CBcb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, Indigence has been a persistent social problem 3 throughout history and has reached an intolerable level 4 throughout our country; and 5 WHEREAS, People in urban, suburban, and rural areas of 6 Illinois experience indigence, proving that it is not just a 7 big city problem; and 8 WHEREAS, Each year sees an increase in the number of 9 deaths among those who lack funds to provide for the barest 10 essentials of life; and 11 WHEREAS, Bitter cold winters and extremely hot summers 12 have cost the lives of those individuals who simply could not 13 afford heating or air coolants and died from exposure; and 14 WHEREAS, In remembering those who have died, we must 15 reach out to help those in need; the extent to which our 16 society can counter the effects of indigence serving as a 17 good measure of its humanity; therefore, be it 18 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 19 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 20 proclaim Wednesday, May 27, 1998 as "We Remember, We Care for 21 Indigent Persons Day in Illinois", and that we urge all 22 citizens to observe, inform themselves of, and support 23 efforts to care for the indigent; and be it further 24 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 25 presented to W. Earl Lewis, Founder of the Memorial Ministry 26 for Indigent Persons.
