1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to honor Toastmasters International; and
4 WHEREAS, Toastmasters International is the leading
5 movement devoted to making effective communication and
6 leadership a worldwide reality; through its member clubs,
7 Toastmasters International helps men and women learn the arts
8 of speaking, listening, and thinking: vital skills that
9 promote self-actualization, enhance leadership potential,
10 foster human understanding, and contribute to the betterment
11 of mankind; and
12 WHEREAS, The educational programs by Toastmasters include
13 both beginner and advanced programs; there are approximately
14 180,000 members in 8,400 clubs in 72 countries; Youth
15 Leadership, Speechcraft, and other advanced workshops are
16 provided as a community service to outside members; and
17 WHEREAS, The Toastmasters Clubs provide a friendly,
18 supportive environment and a low-cost, positive learning
19 experience which gives members the opportunity to develop
20 communication and leadership skills; these skills in turn
21 foster self-confidence and personal growth; and
22 WHEREAS, Toastmasters International is a not-for-profit
23 organization and is headquartered in Rancho Santa Margarita,
24 California; since its founding in 1924 Toastmasters has
25 taught more than three million people how to become better
26 communicators and leaders; therefore, be it
27 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
28 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
29 request that the week of April 20-26, 1998 be declared
30 Toastmasters Week in the State of Illinois; we commend
31 Toastmasters International on their service to the

1 individual, helping people to better improve their
2 communication skills; and be it further
3 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4 presented to Len Jury, the President of Toastmasters
5 International.
