1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to honor the Edgar R. Rogier
4 American Legion Post 543 in Patoka, Illinois, on the
5 completion of their new facility; and
6 WHEREAS, Ground breaking on the new facility took place
7 on September 6, 1997 with the footing excavation; on February
8 14, 1998 the first major event, the Sweetheart Dance, took
9 place in the new building; and
10 WHEREAS, The Edgar R. Rogier Post #543 was first
11 chartered in 1920; as the membership grew, it was evident
12 that a new facility was needed; the new building has room for
13 two hundred people, with new kitchen facilities and
14 handicapped access; the building is considered an outreach to
15 the community that Post #543 serves; and
16 WHEREAS, Post #543 loans medical equipment to those that
17 have need of it; the Legion sponsors organizations such as
18 DARE, school athletics, programs for seniors, Red Cross,
19 scouting, and helping people in the community; a $500
20 scholarship is awarded each year; members of the Legion lead
21 the parade and cook the food for the annual Fall Festival;
22 the Edgar R. Rogier American Legion Post #543 shows that it
23 cares through its many community services; therefore, be it
24 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
25 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
26 congratulate the Edgar R. Rogier American Legion Post #543 of
27 Patoka on the completion of their new facilities; may they
28 get the most out of them, may they serve the community, and
29 may they be around for years to come; and be it further
30 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
31 presented to the Edgar R. Rogier American Legion Post #543 of
