1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, In a continuing effort to recognize the
3 excellence of young athletes, this House wishes to
4 congratulate the Centralia High School Orphans basketball
5 team; and
6 WHEREAS, Under the guidance and inspiration of Coach Rick
7 Moss, the Centralia Orphans went to the State Tournament and
8 ended the season with a record of 27-6; and
9 WHEREAS, The Orphans are America's Winningest Basketball
10 Team with 1,829 victories in the 91 year history at Centralia
11 High School; they have also had 9 State Tournament
12 appearances (not one college basketball team in the country
13 has more wins than Centralia High School); and
14 WHEREAS, Five Harlem Globetrotters came from Centralia
15 High School and 3 members of the National Basketball
16 Association, Dwight "Dike" Eddleman, classified as Illinois'
17 greatest athlete, Ken McBride, and Dickie Garrett; and
18 WHEREAS, Coach Rick Moss is the first coach since Mr.
19 Arthur Trout to win 20 or more games in a row; he has records
20 of 24-4, 27-2, 20-6, 22-7, and 27-6; and
21 WHEREAS, The achievements of the Centralia High School
22 Orphans confirm our belief that hard work and dedication are
23 effective when you set goals and strive to achieve them; and
24 WHEREAS, All past and present students and supporters of
25 the Centralia High School Orphans and all residents of
26 Centralia should be proud of the poise, dedication, resolve,
27 and athletic ability of the young men who are members of this
28 team; therefore, be it
29 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
30 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we

1 congratulate the Centralia High School Orphans on their
2 successful season and that we extend our best wishes to them
3 for continued success in their future endeavors; and be it
4 further
5 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6 presented to Coach Rick Moss.
