1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The Illinois Community College Board Student
3 Advisory Committee will set aside April 15, 1998 as Soberfest
4 Day within Illinois' many community colleges; for the last
5 four years community colleges have been encouraged to
6 participate in programs designed to encourage alcohol-free
7 activities; and
8 WHEREAS, Soberfest Day is a Statewide observance by
9 community colleges to demonstrate to students and young
10 adults the advantages of participating in alcohol-free
11 activities; each community college sponsors a get together
12 with food, drink, and demonstrations showing the
13 disadvantages of alcohol use; traffic safety demonstrations,
14 free literature, and music that instructs and entertains are
15 all provided to teach people; and
16 WHEREAS, The Illinois Community College Board Student
17 Lobby Day will also be held on April 15, 1998 in Springfield,
18 Illinois; this will be an opportunity for students from
19 around the State to visit with their legislators and promote
20 Soberfest Day 1998; therefore, be it
21 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
22 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
23 urge Governor Edgar to sign a proclamation declaring April
24 15, 1998 as "Soberfest Day 1998" in the State of Illinois;
25 and be it further
26 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be sent
27 to Governor Edgar.
