90_HR0276 LRB9007742KBkb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, Illinois has lost a valued and respected citizen 3 with the death of John D. Brady of Chicago, Illinois; and 4 WHEREAS, John Brady dedicated his life to the pursuit of 5 justice and established a tradition of excellence as a 6 criminal court judge, as a prosecutor, and as a public 7 defender, and he will always be remembered by his colleagues 8 in the court house as hard working, compassionate, stern, 9 tough, and fair; and 10 WHEREAS, John Brady served as a judge in the criminal 11 division of the Cook County Circuit Court; in 1988 he was 12 appointed to serve as an associate judge in the First 13 Municipal Court; in 1989 he joined the criminal division, 14 serving in the night Narcotics Court where he developed 15 innovative and nationally renowned methods for disposing of 16 court cases and broke all records for court disposition 17 before moving to the day trial section; and 18 WHEREAS, John Brady became an Assistant State's Attorney 19 in Cook County in 1981, where he quickly rose through the 20 ranks, eventually becoming a leading supervisor in the 21 office; during his tenure, he became known as one of the best 22 trial attorneys ever to work at 26th and California, 23 compiling an unrivaled conviction rate; and 24 WHEREAS, John Brady personally developed the next 25 generation of Assistant State's Attorneys, devoting countless 26 hours to young, legally challenged law students who were 27 unsure of their career, imbueing in them his lofty values of 28 dedication, hard work, passion, conviction to do what is 29 right, friendship, and above all, love of life; and through 30 whom John's legacy will live on forever; and 31 WHEREAS, John Brady began his career after he graduated -2- LRB9007742KBkb 1 from St. Joseph's College in Rensselear, Indiana; from 1970 2 to 1978 he worked as a trust officer for American National 3 Bank, during which time he also attended John Marshall Law 4 School, where he graduated in 1974; in 1978 he began his 5 legal career when he joined the Office of the Cook County 6 Public Defender; and 7 WHEREAS, John Brady truly was a man for the ages who 8 touched the hearts and souls of all he knew, causing each to 9 be a better person for having known him, and whose spirit, 10 laugh, and smile will live on forever; and 11 WHEREAS, John Brady is survived by his loving wife, Nora; 12 his parents, Jack and Marge Brady; his brothers, Timothy and 13 his wife Charlotte, Kevin, Terry, and Joel; therefore, be it 14 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 15 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 16 send our condolences to the family and friends of Judge John 17 Brady of Chicago, Illinois; and be it further 18 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 19 presented to the family of Judge John Brady.
