1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The city of Centralia, Illinois, annually
3 inducts three of its citizens into the Centralia Hall of
4 Fame; and
5 WHEREAS, Roland W. Burris, former Attorney General for
6 the State of Illinois, is a recent inductee into the
7 Centralia Hall of Fame; and
8 WHEREAS, Roland Burris was born in Centralia, Illinois;
9 he is a graduate of Southern Illinois University in
10 Carbondale; he studied International Law as an exchange
11 student at the University of Hamburg in Germany; Mr. Burris
12 earned his law degree at Howard University Law School in
13 Washington, D.C.; and
14 WHEREAS, Roland Burris began his career with Continental
15 Illinois Bank, and rose to the position of Vice-President; in
16 1973 he became Illinois Director of General Services; he went
17 on to hold the position of Executive Director and Chief
18 Operating Officer for Operation PUSH; and
19 WHEREAS, In 1978, Roland Burris was elected as
20 Comptroller for the State of Illinois; he became the first
21 African-American elected to statewide office; in 1990, he was
22 elected to serve as Attorney General for the State; and
23 WHEREAS, Roland Burris is married to Dr. Berlean M.
24 Burris, the Vice Provost and Director of the Chicago Campus
25 of the National-Louis University; they have two adult
26 children; therefore, be it
27 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
28 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
29 salute Roland Burris as he is inducted into the Centralia
30 Hall of Fame; and be it further

1 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2 presented to Roland Burris.
