1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of this Body are pleased to
3 congratulate Courtney Smith of Carlyle High School on being
4 elected Ms. Basketball of Illinois for 1997; and
5 WHEREAS, Courtney Smith was overwhelmingly chosen to
6 receive Illinois' top honor for girls high school basketball
7 players by a statewide panel of media and coaches with a
8 total of 970 points; and
9 WHEREAS, As a senior, she averaged 23 points, 9 rebounds,
10 and 6 assists per game; the Carlyle Lady Indians ended their
11 season with an impressive record of 33-0 and their second
12 consecutive Class A State title; and
13 WHEREAS, Courtney Smith's future plans include playing
14 collegiate basketball at Southern Illinois University at
15 Carbondale; and
16 WHEREAS, The family of Courtney Smith, her coach,
17 teammates, teachers, and friends can be justly proud of her
18 many accomplishments and her outstanding performance on the
19 basketball floor; therefore, be it
20 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
21 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
22 congratulate Courtney Smith on being named Ms. Basketball of
23 Illinois for 1997; that we commend her for the commitment she
24 has made to the sport of basketball; and that we extend our
25 sincere best wishes to her for success in the future; and be
26 it further
27 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
28 presented to her as an expression of our esteem.
