1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of this Body were saddened to learn
3 of the death of our former colleague, Carl H. Wittmond of
4 Brussels, on Wednesday, March 26, 1997; and
5 WHEREAS, A descendant of the pioneer settlers of Calhoun
6 County, he was born on February 24, 1905 in Brussels, the son
7 of Charles A. and Caroline Narup Wittmond; and
8 WHEREAS, The Wittmond family had operated the Wittmond
9 Hotel & Store in Brussels since 1847, and Carl Wittmond
10 continued the operation of the hotel until his death; and
11 WHEREAS, Mr. Wittmond served as a member of the House of
12 Representatives of the State of Illinois from 1952 until
13 1970; and
14 WHEREAS, He was a former merchant arbitrator for the
15 Illinois Industrial Commission, vice president and director
16 of the Bank of Kampsville, and publisher of the Calhoun
17 Herald; and
18 WHEREAS, Mr. Wittmond was a member of St. Mary's Catholic
19 Church in Brussels, and was affiliated with the Elks, Moose
20 Lodge, and the Knights of Columbus; and
21 WHEREAS, His passing will be deeply felt by his family
22 and friends, especially his sister, Virginia Burch; his
23 nephews, Charles Burch, Dr. Lawrence Burch, and David
24 Stelbrink; his nieces, Mary Burch and Jean Fuller; and his
25 friend and companion, Jane Stewart; therefore, be it
26 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
27 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
28 note with sorrow and regret the death of Carl H. Wittmond and
29 extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends; and
30 be it further

1 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2 presented to the family of Carl H. Wittmond.
