90_HR0125 LRB9005612CBcb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, By energetically and tirelessly devoting himself 3 to championing the sport of boxing, Montell Griffin has 4 earned the respect and admiration of the citizenry; and 5 WHEREAS, Montell Griffin has recently won the highly 6 esteemed World Boxing Council (WBC) Light-heavyweight 7 Championship of the World; and 8 WHEREAS, He has proudly represented the United States and 9 the State of Illinois as an olympic light-heavyweight boxer 10 in the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain; and 11 WHEREAS, Montell Griffin has an impeccable professional 12 boxing record of twenty-seven wins and zero defeats including 13 eighteen by way of knock-out, formerly holding the Los 14 Angeles Great Western Forum Classic National 15 Light-heavyweight Championship, the International Boxing 16 Federation (IBF) Intercontinental Light-heavyweight 17 Championship, the North American Boxing Federation (NABF) 18 Light-heavyweight Championship, and the World Boxing Union 19 (WBU) Light-heavyweight Championship; and 20 WHEREAS, He has committed himself to overcoming adversity 21 by carrying on a rich family tradition of boxing instilled by 22 his father, Clarence Griffin, founder of Chicago's famous 23 Windy City Gym; and 24 WHEREAS, Montell Griffin is managed by John Caluwaert of 25 World Boxing Champions Inc., trained by boxing legends: Eddie 26 Futch, Thell Torrence, and Tim Griffin, who, during their 27 distinguished careers, have trained more champions than any 28 other trainers in the sport of boxing; and 29 WHEREAS, Montell Griffin is married to Troye and has two 30 children, Montell and Bh'rea; therefore, be it -2- LRB9005612CBcb 1 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 2 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 3 congratulate Montell Griffin and his team upon winning the 4 World Boxing Council's Light-heavyweight Championship of the 5 World; that we commend him for his diligence and dedication 6 to the sport of boxing; and that we wish him, his family, and 7 his professional team all the best in the future; and be it 8 further 9 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 10 presented to Montell Griffin as an expression of our respect 11 and esteem.
