90_HR0112 LRB9005549KBkb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, There are programs designed to help young people 3 who are struggling with school, home life, and life on the 4 streets of Illinois; and 5 WHEREAS, One such program within the State of Illinois is 6 the Lincoln's Challenge program; Lincoln's Challenge is 7 located in Rantoul, Illinois at the site of the former 8 Chanute Air Force Base; and 9 WHEREAS, Lincoln's Challenge is designed to help the 10 young people of Illinois through a voluntary program where 11 the participants reside at the site in Rantoul, and learn 12 self discipline and respect both for themselves and the 13 people they work with on a daily basis; As a result of the 14 program, young people from the State develop skills that will 15 help them in the future, from learning how to communicate 16 with others to working out problems that they may encounter 17 in the future; and 18 WHEREAS, Lincoln's Challenge works with funding provided 19 by both State and federal sources; without such funds the 20 program and its success story thus far will end; therefore, 21 be it 22 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 23 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 24 urge Congress to continue federal funding for Illinois' 25 Lincoln's Challenge program, so that young people within the 26 State may continue to be afforded the opportunity to develop 27 new and productive skills that will aid them in their future 28 endeavors; and be it further 29 RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be sent 30 to all members of the Illinois congressional delegation in 31 Washington, D.C.
