1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of this Body are happy to recognize
3 citizens of this State who have made outstanding
4 contributions to society; and
5 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Janie Smith of
6 Centralia will be installed as State President of the
7 Business & Professional Women of Illinois on April 19, 1997
8 in Peoria; and
9 WHEREAS, Ms. Smith has been a member of the Centralia BPW
10 since April of 1984 and has served the organization in
11 several capacities, including membership chair, finance
12 chair, legislation chair, young careerist chair, BPW week
13 chair, corresponding secretary, vice president, and
14 president; and
15 WHEREAS, On the District level, she has served as
16 legislation chair, and she has served as second
17 vice-president, first vice-president, and President-Elect on
18 the State level; and
19 WHEREAS, An attorney and partner with the law firm of
20 Wham & Wham in Centralia, Ms. Smith was honored by the
21 Illinois Jaycees as one of the Ten Outstanding Young Persons
22 in Illinois; and
23 WHEREAS, Janie Smith's community involvement and civic
24 concern will long inspire the citizens of this State;
25 therefore, be it
26 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
27 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
28 congratulate Janie Smith as she is installed State President
29 of the Business & Professional Women of Illinois and extend
30 our sincere best wishes for continued success in her future;
31 and be it further

2 presented to her as an expression of our respect and esteem.
