1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, In keeping with their remarkable performance in
3 the past decade, the Downers Grove South High School
4 Speechers took their seventh Illinois High School Association
5 State Speech Team Championship in 1997, their fourth
6 consecutive win; and
7 WHEREAS, Credited with "Dominance of the Decade" by the
8 Chicago Tribune, the school's team also holds the record for
9 highest team point total in the history of the tournament;
10 and
11 WHEREAS, Led and inspired by Coaches John Hires, Jan
12 Heiteen, Vince Walsh-Rock, and Kim Buturusis, the State team
13 members included: Chris Gurrie, Reena Mathew, Laurie Jacobs,
14 Josie Yousef, Laura Grey, Rita Mocek, Cristina Ziccarelli,
15 Val Garcia, Laura Grey, Katie Killacky, Sarah Huen, and Sarah
16 London; and
17 WHEREAS, The coaches, faculty, students, and parents of
18 the Downers Grove South High School Speechers share in this
19 victory in that they have provided the instruction,
20 inspiration, and support which contributed to this memorable
21 finish which sustains a long-standing tradition of academic
22 excellence at Downers Grove South High School; therefore, be
23 it
24 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
25 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
26 heartily congratulate the Downers Grove South High School
27 Speechers on taking the Illinois High School Association
28 Speech Competition; that we commend the members and their
29 coaches on their dedication and hard work; and that we wish
30 all the students at Downers Grove South High School continued
31 success in the future; and be it further

1 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2 presented to the Principal of Downers Grove South High
3 School.
