90_HR0066 LRB9005413CBcb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The nation has been made aware of the plight of 3 Little Girl X, the victim of a heinous crime perpetrated in 4 Chicago's Cabrini Green Public Housing Project; and 5 WHEREAS, As a result, substantial gestures of comfort and 6 support have been extended to this child and her family; and 7 WHEREAS, Ms. Beverly Reed is often credited with coining 8 the name "Girl X" and endeavoring to keep her story in the 9 news to help capture her attacker and to raise funds for her 10 care; and 11 WHEREAS, Ms. Cathy C. Gardner, a reporter for The Chicago 12 Daily Defender was responsible for numerous articles on the 13 progress of the police investigation and updates on the 14 child's medical condition before the major news dailies took 15 notice; and 16 WHEREAS, Mr. Derek Hill is a radio reporter for Station 17 V-103 who kicked off the first of many fundraisers via his 18 radio show, "Sunday Morning Live", to help defray medical 19 costs that will help Girl X's rehabilitation; therefore, be 20 it 21 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 22 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 23 commend and applaud Ms. Beverly Reed, Ms. Cathy C. Gardner, 24 and Mr. Derek Hill for their display of leadership in a 25 compassionate cause together with all the other people, 26 organizations, and businesses making contributions to the 27 Fund; and be it further 28 RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be 29 presented to Ms. Beverly Reed, Ms. Cathy C. Gardner, The 30 Chicago Daily Defender, Mr. Derek Hill, and Radio Station 31 V-103.
