1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of this Body are pleased to
3 recognize individuals who have excelled in the field of
4 athletics; and
5 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that the late
6 Virgil Robinson was recently inducted into the Centralia
7 Sports Hall of Fame; and
8 WHEREAS, An all-around athlete at Centralia High School,
9 Virgil Robinson held a State championship in the pole vault,
10 and also gave outstanding performances on the basketball
11 court and on the football field; and
12 WHEREAS, Virgil Robinson continued his remarkable sports
13 feats after high school, pitching the Demolay ball team to a
14 State championship; he also held the State record in the pole
15 vault at the Demolay State Meet; and
16 WHEREAS, He also pitched the Lions Club to the city
17 softball championship, hitting a home run to win the final
18 game; and
19 WHEREAS, Virgil Robinson earned further recognition as he
20 pitched for Mobil Gas in the Industrial League and Richards'
21 Tank Service in the city slow-pitch championship in 1957; he
22 was also the leading scorer in the Industrial Basketball
23 League, playing for Ohio Seamless Tube, and he played tackle
24 for the 11th Regiment football team at Camp Fanin, Texas, in
25 1944; and
26 WHEREAS, Virgil Robinson is indeed worthy of the tribute
27 being paid him; therefore, be it
28 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
29 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
30 are honored to join in the recognition of Virgil Robinson as

1 a member of the Centralia Sports Hall of Fame; his remarkable
2 athletic ability will long be remembered; and be it further
3 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4 presented to the family of Virgil Robinson.
