90_HJ0039 LRB9007698KBkb 1 HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The Illinois House of Representatives welcomes 3 Tzipora Rimon to Springfield, Illinois; Ms. Rimon is the 4 Consul General of Israel to the Midwest; and 5 WHEREAS, Tzipora Rimon was born, raised, and educated in 6 Israel; while serving in the Israel Defense Forces, she 7 reached the rank of Captain and specialized in instructional 8 work with the Women's Corps; Ms. Rimon received a Bachelor of 9 Arts in Economics from Hebrew University, where she majored 10 in international trade; and 11 WHEREAS, In 1975 Ms. Rimon joined the Ministry of Foreign 12 Affairs; among her broad range of expertise is Israel's 13 economic relations with the United States and Europe, and 14 matters concerning the World Trade Organization; she is also 15 a graduate of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade's 16 special course for civil servants dealing with international 17 trade and trade legislation; and 18 WHEREAS, In 1979 and 1980 Ms. Rimon participated in the 19 United Nations General Assembly as a member of the Israeli 20 delegation; and 21 WHEREAS, Ms. Rimon has served in Israel's Embassies in 22 Copenhagen and Lisbon with responsibilities covering 23 political, information, and cultural affairs; between 1990 24 and 1994 she was Minister-Counselor at the Israel Embassy in 25 Rome and Israel's Permanent Representative to the United 26 Nation's Food and Agricultural Organization; she also served 27 as Israel's representative at the International Fund for 28 Agricultural Development and the World Food Program; and 29 WHEREAS, Since 1994 Ms. Rimon has filled the position of 30 divisional director in the Ministry's Economic Department, 31 working with Jordan, Egypt, the Palestinian Authority, and -2- LRB9007698KBkb 1 the Gulf States; she has also participated in the Regional 2 Economic Development Working Group (the multilateral track of 3 the Mid East peace talks) as well as in discussions and 4 negotiations on bilateral and multilateral trade issues; and 5 WHEREAS, Ms. Rimon was appointed Consul General of Israel 6 to the Midwest region of the United States in August of 1997; 7 therefore, be it 8 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 9 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE 10 SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we extend our congratulations 11 to Ms. Rimon on her appointment to the position of Consul 12 General of Israel to the Midwest region, and welcome her to 13 the Illinois General Assembly; and be it further 14 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 15 presented to Ms. Tzipora Rimon.
