1 HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of this Body are honored and
3 delighted to recognize a significant milestone in the history
4 of an outstanding institution that has contributed greatly to
5 the welfare of the people of this State; and
6 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that the
7 Jacksonville Developmental Center is celebrating 150 years in
8 service to the State; and
9 WHEREAS, The Illinois State Hospital for the Insane was
10 first established on March 1, 1847 for the purpose of
11 providing for the humane care and treatment of individuals
12 with mental impairment, and in 1974, the hospital's mission
13 was changed to include providing services to individuals with
14 developmental disabilities; and
15 WHEREAS, This facility, now known as the Jacksonville
16 Developmental Center, helps individuals to achieve personal
17 goals while providing diagnosis, remediation, and training;
18 and
19 WHEREAS, Throughout the past 150 years, the Jacksonville
20 Developmental Center has undergone remarkable growth in its
21 physical plant and in its services to the community, and the
22 devotion and self-sacrificing commitment of the staff and
23 employees of the Center have been an inspiration to all;
24 therefore, be it
25 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
26 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE
27 SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we congratulate the
28 Jacksonville Developmental Center on the occasion of its
29 150th anniversary and acknowledge the valuable services it
30 has provided throughout the years; and be it further
31 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be

1 presented to the administration of Jacksonville Developmental
2 Center as an expression of our respect and appreciation.
