Amends the Child Care Act of 1969 to require the
Department of Children and Family Services to establish and
maintain a statewide toll-free telephone number to offer
information to the public concerning the past history and
record of day care centers. Effective January 1, 1999.

1 AN ACT to amend the Child Care Act of 1969 by adding
2 Section 9.2.
3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
4 represented in the General Assembly:
5 Section 5. The Child Care Act of 1969 is amended by
6 adding Section 9.2 as follows:
7 (225 ILCS 10/9.2 new)
8 Sec. 9.2. Toll free number; day care information. The
9 Department of Children and Family Services shall establish
10 and maintain a statewide toll-free telephone number that all
11 persons may use to inquire about the past history and record
12 of a day care facility operating in this State. The past
13 history and record shall include, but shall not be limited
14 to, Department substantiated complaints against a day care
15 facility and Department staff findings of license violations
16 by a day care facility. Information disclosed in accordance
17 with this Section shall be subject to the confidentiality
18 requirements provided in this Act.
19 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect
20 January 1, 1999.
