90_HB2506 410 ILCS 65/7 new Amends the Illinois Rural/Downstate Health Act. Requires the Center for Rural Health to study women's access to obstetrical care in rural areas of the State. Requires the Department of Public Health to make reports to the General Assembly. Effective immediately. LRB9008697DJcd LRB9008697DJcd 1 AN ACT to amend the Illinois Rural/Downstate Health Act 2 by adding Section 7. 3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, 4 represented in the General Assembly: 5 Section 5. The Illinois Rural/Downstate Health Act is 6 amended by adding Section 7 as follows: 7 (410 ILCS 65/7 new) 8 Sec. 7. Obstetrical care. The Center for Rural Health 9 shall study women's access to obstetrical care in rural 10 areas of the State. In its study the Center shall consider 11 the following: 12 (1) Barriers to obstetrical practice encountered by 13 family physicians and other practitioners in rural areas 14 of the State. 15 (2) Ways to encourage more practitioners in rural 16 areas of the State to provide obstetrical services. 17 (3) The feasibility of birthing centers in rural 18 areas of the State. 19 (4) Other barriers to obstetrical services 20 encountered by persons seeking those services. 21 The Department of Public Health shall make an interim 22 report on the Center's study to the General Assembly no 23 later than January 1, 1999 and shall make a final report to 24 the General Assembly no later than July 1, 1999. 25 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon 26 becoming law.
