Amends the Boat Registration and Safety Act to exempt
non-powered, inflatable recreational boats from the
requirement that watercraft be numbered by the Department of
Natural Resources. Effective immediately.

1 AN ACT to amend the Boat Registration and Safety Act by
2 changing Section 3-1.
3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
4 represented in the General Assembly:
5 Section 5. The Boat Registration and Safety Act is
6 amended by changing Section 3-1 as follows:
7 (625 ILCS 45/3-1) (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 313-1)
8 Sec. 3-1. Unlawful operation of unnumbered watercraft.
9 Every watercraft other than sailboards, on waters within the
10 jurisdiction of this State shall be numbered. No person may
11 operate or give permission for the operation of any such
12 watercraft on such waters unless the watercraft is numbered
13 in accordance with this Act, or in accordance with applicable
14 federal law, or in accordance with a federally-approved
15 numbering system of another state, and unless (1) the
16 certificate of number awarded to such watercraft is in full
17 force and effect, and (2) the identifying number set forth in
18 the certificate of number is displayed on each side of the
19 bow of such watercraft.
20 This Section does not apply to non-powered, inflatable
21 recreational boats.

23 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
24 becoming law.
