Authorizes the school board or board of education of a school district located in a county that has a population in excess of 2,000,000 to establish and operate evening programs for students using school facilities. Provides that those evening school programs may include educational enrichment programs, recreational and physical exercise programs, and tutorial programs. Adds provisions relative to program staffing. Effective immediately. LRB9005433THpk LRB9005433THpk 1 AN ACT to amend the School Code by adding Section 2 10-22.18e. 3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, 4 represented in the General Assembly: 5 Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section 6 10-22.18e as follows: 7 (105 ILCS 5/10-22.18e new) 8 Sec. 10-22.18e. Evening school programs. The school 9 board, board of education, or other governing body of a 10 school district, all or part of which is located in a county 11 that has a population in excess of 2,000,000, is authorized 12 to develop, maintain, and operate evening programs for 13 students in school facilities and on school premises. 14 Those evening school programs may include educational 15 enrichment programs, recreational and physical exercise 16 programs, and tutorial or peer assistance programs under 17 which students are assisted with their homework and course 18 studies. 19 An evening school program offered under this Section 20 shall be under the coordination and supervision of at least 21 one member of the school district's staff who is certified to 22 teach or to supervise in the public schools of this State. 23 However, the school district is authorized to utilize 24 qualified volunteers to assist in the actual conduct and 25 operation of the evening school program even though those 26 volunteers are not certificated or employed by the school 27 district. 28 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon 29 becoming law.
