Amends the Counties Code and the Illinois Municipal Code.
Provides that police officers in a county with a population
of less than 3,000,000 may unlock the doors of a motor
vehicle upon the request of the owner of the vehicle.

1 AN ACT concerning police officers, amending named Acts.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Counties Code is amended by adding
5 Section 3-6015.1 as follows:
6 (55 ILCS 5/3-6015.1 new)
7 Sec. 3-6015.1 Unlocking motor vehicles. In counties
8 with a population of less than 3,000,000, the sheriff and his
9 or her deputies and auxiliary deputies may unlock the doors
10 of a motor vehicle upon the request of the owner of the
11 vehicle.
12 Section 10. The Illinois Municipal Code is amended by
13 adding Section 11-1-12 as follows:

15 Sec. 11-1-12. Unlocking motor vehicles. A police
16 officer of a municipality situated in a county with a
17 population of less than 3,000,000 may unlock the doors of a
18 motor vehicle upon the request of the owner of the vehicle.
