Amend House Bill 2172 by replacing 3 the title with the following: 4 "AN ACT to amend the Code of Criminal Procedure of 1963 5 by adding Section 115-20."; and 6 by replacing everything after the enacting clause with the 7 following: 8 "Section 5. The Code of Criminal Procedure of 1963 is 9 amended by adding Section 115-20 as follows: 10 (725 ILCS 5/115-20 new) 11 Sec. 115-20. Confession, admission or inculpatory 12 statement sufficient to convict. In a prosecution for a 13 criminal offense, the confession or admission of the 14 defendant or an inculpatory statement of the defendant is 15 sufficient evidence for conviction if there is either 16 corroborating evidence or if the court finds the confession, 17 admission, or inculpatory statement to be trustworthy. 18 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon 19 becoming law.".
