305 ILCS 5/4-2.5 new
Amends the AFDC Article of the Public Aid Code. Requires
that in implementing the Temporary Assistance for Needy
Families program under P. L. 104-193, the Department of
Public Aid (before July 1, 1997) and the Department of Human
Services (after July 1, 1997) establish a program to ensure
that assistance is provided to children to meet their basic
needs. Effective immediately.

1 AN ACT to amend the Illinois Public Aid Code by adding
2 Section 4-2.5.
3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
4 represented in the General Assembly:
5 Section 5. The Illinois Public Aid Code is amended by
6 adding Section 4-2.5 as follows:
7 (305 ILCS 5/4-2.5 new)
8 Sec. 4-2.5. Assistance for children's basic needs. In
9 implementing the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families
10 program under the Personal Responsibility and Work
11 Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996, P. L. 104-193, the
12 Illinois Department shall establish a program to ensure that
13 assistance is provided for children to meet their basic
14 needs, notwithstanding any employment or work activity
15 requirements or limitations applicable to parents or
16 caretakers of children.
17 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
18 becoming law.
