LRB9003948NTsb LRB9003948NTsb 1 AN ACT to amend the Illinois Vehicle Code by changing and 2 renumbering Section 3-629, added by Public Act 89-612, and 3 adding Section 3-639. 4 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, 5 represented in the General Assembly: 6 Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by 7 changing and renumbering Section 3-629, added by Public Act 8 89-612, and adding Section 3-639 as follows: 9 (625 ILCS 5/3-634) 10 Sec. 3-634.3-629. Illinois Fire Fighters' Memorial 11 License Plate. 12 (a) The Secretary, upon receipt of an application made 13 in the form prescribed by the Secretary of State, may issue 14 special registration plates designated to be Illinois Fire 15 Fighters' Memorial license plates. The special plates issued 16 under this Section shall be affixed only to passenger 17 vehicles of the first division, motor vehicles of the second 18 division weighing not more than 8,000 pounds, recreational 19 vehicles as defined in Section 1-169 of this Code, and 20 subject to the staggered registration system. Plates issued 21 under this Section shall expire according to the multi-year 22 procedure established by Section 3-414.1 of this Code. 23 (b) The design and color of the plates shall be wholly 24 within the discretion of the Secretary of State. The 25 Secretary of State may, in his or her discretion, allow the 26 plates to be issued as vanity plates or personalized in 27 accordance with Section 3-405.1 of this Code. The plates are 28 not required to designate "Land of Lincoln", as prescribed in 29 subsection (b) of Section 3-412 of this Code. The Secretary 30 of State shall prescribe stickers or decals as provided under 31 Section 3-412. -2- LRB9003948NTsb 1 (c) An applicant shall be charged a $27 fee for original 2 issuance in addition to the applicable registration fee. Of 3 this additional fee, $15 shall be deposited into the 4 Secretary of State Special License Plate Fund and $12 shall 5 be deposited into the Illinois Fire Fighters' Memorial Fund. 6 For each registration renewal period, a $17 fee, in addition 7 to the appropriate registration fee, shall be charged. Of 8 this fee, $2 shall be deposited into the Secretary of State 9 Special License Plate Fund and $15 shall be deposited into 10 the Illinois Fire Fighters' Memorial Fund. 11 (Source: P.A. 89-612, eff. 8-9-96; revised 10-8-96.) 12 (625 ILCS 5/3-639 new) 13 Sec. 3-639. Fire Fighter plate. 14 (a) The Secretary, upon receipt of all applicable fees 15 and applications made in the form prescribed by the 16 Secretary, may issue special registration plates to fire 17 fighters designated as Fire Fighter license plates. 18 The special plates issued under this Section shall be 19 affixed only to passenger vehicles of the first division or 20 motor vehicles of the second division weighing not more than 21 8,000 pounds. 22 Plates issued under this Section shall expire according 23 to the multi-year procedure established by Section 3-414.1 of 24 this Code. 25 (b) The design and color of the special plates shall be 26 wholly within the discretion of the Secretary. Appropriate 27 documentation, as determined by the Secretary, shall 28 accompany each application. 29 (c) An applicant for the special plate shall be charged 30 a $15 fee for original issuance in addition to the 31 appropriate registration fee. This $15 fee shall be 32 deposited into the Secretary of State Special License Plate 33 Fund, to be used by the Secretary to help defray the -3- LRB9003948NTsb 1 administrative processing costs. 2 For each registration renewal period, a $2 fee, in 3 addition to the appropriate registration fee, shall be 4 charged. This $2 fee shall be deposited into the Secretary 5 of State Special License Plate Fund.
