Illinois Compiled Statutes (ILCS)
Updating the database of the Illinois Compiled Statutes (ILCS) is an ongoing process. Recent laws may not yet be included in the ILCS database, but they are found on this site as Public Acts soon after they become law. For information concerning the relationship between statutes and Public Acts, refer to the Guide.
Because the statute database is maintained primarily for legislative drafting purposes, statutory changes are sometimes included in the statute database before they take effect. If the source note at the end of a Section of the statutes includes a Public Act that has not yet taken effect, the version of the law that is currently in effect may have already been removed from the database and you should refer to that Public Act to see the changes made to the current law.
(50 ILCS 722/25) Sec. 25. Unidentified deceased persons. The coroner, medical examiner, or assisting law enforcement agency shall obtain a biological sample from any individual whose remains are not identifiable. The biological sample shall be forwarded to an accredited Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) laboratory where DNA profiles are entered into the appropriate State and National DNA Index System within 90 days from the discovery of the remains. Prior to the burial or interment of any unknown individual's remains or any unknown individual's body part, the medical examiner or coroner in possession of the remains or body part must assign a case number to the unknown individual or body part. The medical examiner or coroner shall place a stainless-steel tag that is stamped or inscribed with the assigned case number on the individual or body part and on the outside of the burial container.(Source: P.A. 104-339, eff. 1-1-26.) |
