Updating the database of the Illinois Compiled Statutes (ILCS) is an ongoing process. Recent laws may not yet be included in the ILCS database, but they are found on this site as Public Acts soon after they become law. For information concerning the relationship between statutes and Public Acts, refer to the Guide.

Because the statute database is maintained primarily for legislative drafting purposes, statutory changes are sometimes included in the statute database before they take effect. If the source note at the end of a Section of the statutes includes a Public Act that has not yet taken effect, the version of the law that is currently in effect may have already been removed from the database and you should refer to that Public Act to see the changes made to the current law.

Sec. 18i. Maintenance of eligibility to participate in the National Flood Insurance Program.

Nothing in this amendatory Act of the 96th General Assembly shall be construed to diminish or conflict with the authority and the obligation of local governments to adopt and enforce local ordinances and regulations necessary to maintain eligibility to participate fully in the National Flood Insurance Program and for property owners to purchase federal flood insurance. If a local government located in an area that (i) is protected by a federal levee and (ii) located in a flood prevention district established in accordance with the Flood Prevention District Act chooses to participate in the National Flood Insurance Program, it must adopt and maintain ordinances and floodplain management regulations that meet the requirements of 44 C.F.R. 60.3, 60.4, and 60.5, and it must submit copies of those documents to the Federal Emergency Management Agency as required by federal law.
