Updating the database of the Illinois Compiled Statutes (ILCS) is an ongoing process.
Recent laws may not yet be included in the ILCS database, but they are found on this site as
Public
Acts soon after they become law. For information concerning the relationship between statutes and Public Acts, refer to the
Guide.
Because the statute database is maintained primarily for legislative drafting purposes,
statutory changes are sometimes included in the statute database before they take effect.
If the source note at the end of a Section of the statutes includes a Public Act that has
not yet taken effect, the version of the law that is currently in effect may have already
been removed from the database and you should refer to that Public Act to see the changes
made to the current law.

Sec. 6. Physician assistant title.
(a) No physician assistant shall use
the title of doctor, physician, or associate with his or her name or any other term that
would indicate to other persons that he or she is qualified to engage in the
general practice of medicine.
(b) A physician assistant shall verbally identify himself or herself as a physician assistant, including specialty certification, to each patient. (c) Nothing in this Act shall be construed to relieve a physician assistant of the professional or legal responsibility for the care and treatment of persons attended by him or her.
(d) The collaborating physician shall file with the Department notice of
employment, discharge, or collaboration with a physician assistant at the
time of employment, discharge, or assumption of collaboration with a
physician assistant.

(c) Nothing in this Act shall be construed to relieve a physician assistant of the professional or legal responsibility for the care and treatment of persons attended by him or her.
(d) The collaborating physician shall file with the Department notice of
employment, discharge, or collaboration with a physician assistant within 60 days of employment, discharge, or assumption of collaboration with a
physician assistant. Nothing in this Section shall prevent a physician assistant from beginning his or her employment before the notice of employment or collaboration has been filed.
