Updating the database of the Illinois Compiled Statutes (ILCS) is an ongoing process.
Recent laws may not yet be included in the ILCS database, but they are found on this site as
Public
Acts soon after they become law. For information concerning the relationship between statutes and Public Acts, refer to the
Guide.
Because the statute database is maintained primarily for legislative drafting purposes,
statutory changes are sometimes included in the statute database before they take effect.
If the source note at the end of a Section of the statutes includes a Public Act that has
not yet taken effect, the version of the law that is currently in effect may have already
been removed from the database and you should refer to that Public Act to see the changes
made to the current law.
(60 ILCS 1/29-15) Sec. 29-15. Referendum for cessation of township. Upon the adoption of resolutions under Section 29-5 by both the township and municipality, the township board and corporate authorities of the municipality shall certify the question to the election authority and the authority shall cause to be submitted to the voters of the township and municipality at the next election a referendum to discontinue the township and to transfer all the rights, powers, duties, assets, property, liabilities, obligations, and responsibilities of the township to the municipality. The referendum shall be substantially in the following form: Shall the Township of (name
of township) cease? The votes shall be recorded as "Yes" or "No". The referendum is approved when a majority of the voters, in both the township and municipality, approve the referendum. If the referendum is approved, there shall be no further nominations or elections for clerks, assessors, collectors, highway commissioners, supervisors, or trustees of the township or highway commission, and the terms of all such officers currently serving shall continue until the third Monday of May of the year of the consolidated election in which township officials are elected next following the approval of a referendum under this Section.
