Information maintained by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Updating the database of the Illinois Compiled Statutes (ILCS) is an ongoing process. Recent laws may not yet be included in the ILCS database, but they are found on this site as Public Acts soon after they become law. For information concerning the relationship between statutes and Public Acts, refer to the Guide.

Because the statute database is maintained primarily for legislative drafting purposes, statutory changes are sometimes included in the statute database before they take effect. If the source note at the end of a Section of the statutes includes a Public Act that has not yet taken effect, the version of the law that is currently in effect may have already been removed from the database and you should refer to that Public Act to see the changes made to the current law.

20 ILCS 2105/2105-40

    (20 ILCS 2105/2105-40) (was 20 ILCS 2105/61)
Sec. 2105-40. Issuance of certificates and licenses. All certificates, licenses, and authorities shall be issued by the Department in the name of the Department, with the seal of the Department attached. Beginning July 1, 2024, the Department shall supplement all paper-based certificates and licenses with a digitally verified electronic credential. The Department may use a third-party electronic credential system. Such electronic credential system shall include a verification system that is operated by the electronic credential agency or its agent on its behalf for the purpose of verifying the authenticity and validity of electronic credentials. As used in this Section, "electronic credential" means an electronic method based on an auditable digital platform by which a person may display or transmit to another person information that instantly verifies information about a person, such as the person's licensure, program completion, and verified skills and competencies.
