SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to express their sincere condolences to the family and friends of Elmer E. "Buzz" Emerson, who passed away on October 30, 2006; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Emerson was retired from the United States Navy, serving as a Lieutenant for 21 years in active duty and naval reserve time; he served in both World War II and the Korean War; Mr. Emerson was a survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor, serving aboard the U.S.S. San Francisco; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Emerson worked in the area of human resources at 3M, Whirlpool, Abbott Laboratories, Masonite, and Harper-Wyman; he retired as Vice-President of Human Resources of the Evangelical Hospital Association (now Advocate Health Care); and

WHEREAS, Elmer E. "Buzz" Emerson served in community organizations, including Friends of the Library, S.A.L.T. (Seniors and Legal Together), and the Community Services Block Grant advisory board of DuPage County; he was active in the First Presbyterian Church of Downers Grove, serving in the role of elder, deacon, and trustee; and

WHEREAS, He will be remembered for his social work, which began during a faith experience during a Cursillo retreat in the 1960s; he was instrumental in founding FISH, which provides emergency help and food to those in need; FISH provides clothing, food, and referrals to people needing assistance; and

WHEREAS, Elmer Emerson is survived by his wife, Charlotte; his children, Paul (Hanna Zmijewska-Emerson), Evelyn (Bruce Kramer), Barbara (Arvid Grinbergs), Kenneth (Melinda), and Greg and Cindy King; his six grandchildren; his 3 great-grandchildren; and his brother, Kenneth (Millie); he was preceded in death by his father, Harry, his mother, Dora, and his sister, Shirley; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Elmer E. "Buzz" Emerson; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Elmer E. "Buzz" Emerson.
