SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Cherie Mazzone of Alton, who passed away
4 on September 28, 2008; and
 
5     WHEREAS, She was born in Cleveland in 1933, the daughter of
6 Ruth and Gordon Greenfield; she grew up in Brecksville, Ohio,
7 and was an active participant in school activities; she played
8 the clarinet in the school band and the violin in the school
9 orchestra; she was active in sports and earned a Red Cross Life
10 Saving certificate, which enabled her to teach swimming; and
11 she was a very good dancer; and
 
12     WHEREAS, She graduated from Principia College in Elsah in
13 1955 with a teaching degree in secondary education and began
14 teaching in Elmhurst; while in Elmhurst, she met her husband,
15 Philip Mazzone, and they were married in 1957; in 1964, they
16 adopted their first child, Cara, and in 1967, they adopted
17 their second child, Peter; and
 
18     WHEREAS, She was an active member of the First Church of
19 Christ Scientist of Alton-Godfrey; and
 
20     WHEREAS, She will be missed by her family, friends, and
21 neighbors, who knew her for her friendliness, joy, good humor,

1 and great cooking; surviving are her granddaughters, Madison,
2 Kaija, Tayen, and Kyridas and their mother, Cara McFarlane; her
3 grandchildren, Lael and Tosh and their father, Peter Mazzone,
4 and mother, Gillian; and her four nieces, her sister Gay's
5 children, Hilary, Audrey, Courtney, and Andrea DeVries;
6 therefore, be it
 
7     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
8 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
9 her family and friends, the passing of Cherie Mazzone; and be
10 it further
 
11     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12 presented to the family of Cherie Mazzone as a symbol of our
13 sincere sympathy.
