SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with regret of the death of Donald E. Brown of Aurora
4 on Monday, September 4, 2006; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He was born on August 22, 1906, in Monrovia,
6 California, to Charles Edward and Sadie Harriett (Peterson)
7 Brown; he was united in marriage to Claire E. Iftner on
8 December 29, 1934, in Pittsfield; his schooling took him from
9 California to Texas, Iowa, and finally Zion, Illinois, where he
10 graduated from Zion Preparatory College in June of 1924; and
 
11     WHEREAS, He worked for the Chicago office of the
12 Springfield Fire and Marine Insurance Company; he attended
13 Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa, from 1925 to 1927; in 1926
14 he worked with an electric company installing poles and
15 transmission wires from Downers Grove to Naperville;
16 throughout the rest of the 1920s he worked with Commonwealth
17 Edison, worked as an apprentice plumber, and worked with the
18 Illinois Bell Telephone Company; in 1931 he attended North
19 Central College in Naperville, where he met his future wife; he
20 graduated from North Central College in June of 1934 and during
21 the rest of the 1930s worked for IBT office in Chicago, the
22 Wheaton Recreation Project under the WPA, and East Aurora High
23 School as a bookkeeper and their first wrestling coach; he
24 taught first-year accounting at Elgin Community College; he
25 also taught numerous accounting courses for Aurora University
26 from 1965-1974; in 2002 he was voted into the East Aurora High
27 School Athletic Hall of Fame; and
 
28     WHEREAS, He was a member of the National Education
29 Association, the Illinois Education Association, the National
30 Retired Teachers Association, the Illinois Retired Teachers
31 Association, the Aurora Area Retired Teachers Association, and
32 the Aurora Golden K Kiwanis Club; he attended the First

1 Presbyterian Church of Aurora for over sixty years; and
 
2     WHEREAS, The passing of Donald E. Brown has been deeply
3 felt by many, especially his children, Ben (Mary) Brown, Joyce
4 Orland, JanClaire Elliott (David Gold), and Kent (Karen) Brown;
5 his grandchildren, Rodney (Elizabeth) Brown, Cathy (Dave)
6 Magee, Donald (Deanne) Brown, Gary (Julie) Brown, Michael
7 (Diane) Orland, Jeffrey (Diane) Orland, Ronald (Kim) Hamm, Dr.
8 Markus (Katie Godinez) Hamm, Gregory Hamm, Trisha (Chad) Cheek,
9 and Jennifer and Erik Brown; his great-grandchildren, Olivia
10 Brown, Ross, Jess, Emily, Erika, Lindsey and Matthew Magee,
11 Megan and Ryan Brown, Justin Link, Mallory Harris, Alexia and
12 Grant Shenburg, Jacob, Nicole and Joshua Brown, Stephanie (Jon)
13 Schmalensee, Michael, Joseph and Jacob Orland, Mike (Vena) and
14 Rob (Shannon) Bruce, Nikhia, Aaron, Meghan and Alicia Hamm; and
15 his great-great grandchildren, Vincent, Jacob, Kayla, and
16 Maxwell Bruce; his sister-in-laws, Frances and Helen Brown; his
17 brother-in-laws, Joseph (Elisabeth) and Carl (Marie) Iftner,
18 many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; he was
19 preceded in death by his wife; his parents; his brothers,
20 Arthur (Marjorie), Nathaniel, and David; his sister, Carol (Jim
21 Speranza); a sister in infancy; and his grandsons, Thomas L.
22 and Stephen C. Orland; therefore, be it
 
23     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
24 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
25 Donald E. Brown, and we extend our sincere condolences to his
26 family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
27 further
 
28     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
29 presented to his family as an expression of our deepest
30 sympathy.
