SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with regret of the death of O. Boyd Clow of Oswego on
4 Sunday, July 2, 2006; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Oliver Boyd Clow was born in Wheatland Township on
6 September 19, 1922; he married Elizabeth Ann on December 27,
7 1949; she preceded him in death on May 11, 1997; and
 
8     WHEREAS, He was a member of the 1939 graduating class of
9 Aurora East High School; he attended the University of Colorado
10 on a football scholarship and left school after two years to
11 help run the family farm; and
 
12     WHEREAS, In 1949, he moved to what was to become Clow
13 International Airport; he was a farm implement dealer, and he
14 traded a piece of farm equipment to buy his first airplane, a
15 Taylor Craft, and then built his own airstrip, which led to the
16 Chicago Glider Club moving there; the airport grew and was
17 named the Airport of the Year in 1989 for Illinois; and
 
18     WHEREAS, Mr. Clow enjoyed flying and flew all kinds of
19 aircraft from single engine tail draggers to twin engine
20 planes, and in 2003, he was inducted into the Illinois Aviation
21 Hall of Fame; today the airport is home to the Illinois
22 Aviation Museum, which he helped to found; the airport was
23 featured in the movie "Folks", and Mr. Clow had a cameo
24 appearance in the film; the airport was eventually purchased by
25 the Village of Bollingbrook and given the name Bollingbrook
26 Clow International Airport; and
 
27     WHEREAS, He was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian
28 Church of DuPage; he was a Cub Scout leader and a Special
29 Deputy with the Will County Sheriff's Department; he was a
30 member of the National Rifle Association, the Experimental

1 Aircraft Association, the Aircraft Owners and Pilots
2 Association, Ducks Unlimited, the Flying Farmers Association,
3 and the Navioneers; and
 
4     WHEREAS, The passing of Boyd Clow has been deeply felt by
5 many, especially his son, F. Andrew "Andy" (Sandra) Clow; his
6 daughter, Susie (Danny) Clow-Threm; his loving companion,
7 Myrna Walker; his grandchildren, Nathan F. Andrew "Drew" and
8 Zachary Clow, Nicholas Clow, Oliver Clow-Threm, and Carissa
9 Threm; in addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his
10 parents, Henry Franklin and Luella (Boyd) Clow; his brother,
11 William Franklin Clow; and his sister, Caroline Collins;
12 therefore, be it
 
13     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
14 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15 O. Boyd Clow, and we extend our sincere condolences to his
16 family, his friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
17 further
 
18     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19 presented to his family as an expression of our deepest
20 sympathy.
