SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with regret of the death of Donald J. Johnson of Alton on Monday, August 7, 2006; and

WHEREAS, He was born on May 14, 1946, in Harrisburg to Roger and Norma (Hanks) Johnson; and

WHEREAS, He married the former Barbara A. Tepen on May 10, 1969, at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church; and

WHEREAS, He owned and operated D.J.'s Bar and Grill in Upper Alton for the last 26 years; he was a winner of the Pride Chili Cook-off several times, a board member of the Boys and Girls Club of Alton, and a supporter of the Alton-Godfrey Rotary Club, the Upper Alton Businessman's Association, and the Quarterback Club; and

WHEREAS, He was an avid golfer, fisherman, and card player; he was a great University of Illinois sports fan, supporting all sports at the university; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Donald J. Johnson has been deeply felt by many, especially his wife, Barbara; his parents, Roger and Norma; his children, Jennifer Johnson and Brad Johnson and his wife, Melissa; his grandchildren, Jessica and Jacob Johnson and Emilee Martin; his brother, Michael Johnson; several brothers and sisters-in-law; and his many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Donald J. Johnson, and we extend our sincere condolences to his family, his friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to his family as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
