SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois were grieved to learn of the death of Thomas Earl Robinson on Saturday, February 5, 2005; and

WHEREAS, He was born on September 27, 1940, the son of Wade Robinson and Beatrice Ross, in Mangham, Louisiana; he attended Catholic elementary schools in Louisiana; after moving to Chicago, he graduated from Crane High School and then worked as a delivery person for Black's Pharmacy; and

WHEREAS, On February 17, 1964, Mr. Robinson enlisted in the Army and valiantly served his country during the Vietnam War as a military policeman; he received two marksman medals and a National Defense Service Medal before his discharge on February 3, 1967; he remained active as a member of the American Legion; and

WHEREAS, After he was discharged, he returned to Chicago and worked as a Chicago Transit Authority bus driver while attending Kennedy-King College at night; on his bus route, he met Lola Jean Marruffo; she became his wife on October 13, 1970; they had two children, Stephanie Nicole Robinson and Anthony Earl Robinson; the family attended Little Flower Church; and

WHEREAS, In 1985, he began working at Horween Leather Company as a fireman; inspired by Stephanie's impending college graduation, he decided to complete his education, and in 1996, he became a stationary engineer; he retired from Horween Leather Company in 2005; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Thomas Earl Robinson has been deeply felt by many, especially his mother, Beatrice Sam; his stepfather, Harry Sam; his longtime friend, Myra Phillips; his sons, Anthony Earl (Tiffany) Robinson, Myron Phillips, and Marcel Phillips; his daughters, Sandra Sherman, Stephanie Nicole (Melvin) Robinson, Myra M. Phillips, Lynneice Fuller, and Danielle Robinson; his brothers, Charles Edward (Helen) Robinson and Ronald Sam; his sisters, Joyce Yvonne Calvin, Norma Jean Sutton, and Beverly Jo Hammond; his aunt, Hattie M. Nicks; his uncle, John Sam; and his many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Thomas Earl Robinson, and we extend our deepest sympathy to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to his family as an expression of our sincere condolences.
