SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 were grieved to learn of the death of Thomas Earl Robinson on
4 Saturday, February 5, 2005; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He was born on September 27, 1940, the son of Wade
6 Robinson and Beatrice Ross, in Mangham, Louisiana; he attended
7 Catholic elementary schools in Louisiana; after moving to
8 Chicago, he graduated from Crane High School and then worked as
9 a delivery person for Black's Pharmacy; and
 
10     WHEREAS, On February 17, 1964, Mr. Robinson enlisted in the
11 Army and valiantly served his country during the Vietnam War as
12 a military policeman; he received two marksman medals and a
13 National Defense Service Medal before his discharge on February
14 3, 1967; he remained active as a member of the American Legion;
15 and
 
16     WHEREAS, After he was discharged, he returned to Chicago
17 and worked as a Chicago Transit Authority bus driver while
18 attending Kennedy-King College at night; on his bus route, he
19 met Lola Jean Marruffo; she became his wife on October 13,
20 1970; they had two children, Stephanie Nicole Robinson and
21 Anthony Earl Robinson; the family attended Little Flower
22 Church; and
 
23     WHEREAS, In 1985, he began working at Horween Leather
24 Company as a fireman; inspired by Stephanie's impending college
25 graduation, he decided to complete his education, and in 1996,
26 he became a stationary engineer; he retired from Horween
27 Leather Company in 2005; and
 
28     WHEREAS, The passing of Thomas Earl Robinson has been
29 deeply felt by many, especially his mother, Beatrice Sam; his
30 stepfather, Harry Sam; his longtime friend, Myra Phillips; his

1 sons, Anthony Earl (Tiffany) Robinson, Myron Phillips, and
2 Marcel Phillips; his daughters, Sandra Sherman, Stephanie
3 Nicole (Melvin) Robinson, Myra M. Phillips, Lynneice Fuller,
4 and Danielle Robinson; his brothers, Charles Edward (Helen)
5 Robinson and Ronald Sam; his sisters, Joyce Yvonne Calvin,
6 Norma Jean Sutton, and Beverly Jo Hammond; his aunt, Hattie M.
7 Nicks; his uncle, John Sam; and his many grandchildren, nieces,
8 nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it
 
9     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
10 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11 Thomas Earl Robinson, and we extend our deepest sympathy to his
12 family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
13 further
 
14     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15 presented to his family as an expression of our sincere
16 condolences.
