SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, In 1991, 95 percent of the voters of Macedonia
3 voted for independence from Yugoslavia; and
 
4     WHEREAS, In 1993, the Republic of Macedonia became a member
5 of the United Nations; and
 
6     WHEREAS, In 1994, the United States of America recognized
7 the Republic of Macedonia as a sovereign state, and the
8 Republic of Macedonia was recently cited and honored by
9 President Bush and the United States Department of State for
10 its support in the war with Iraq; and
 
11     WHEREAS, There is a large contingency of Macedonians living
12 throughout the United States; therefore, be it
 
13     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
14 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we support the rights
15 of Macedonians living throughout the Balkans to speak their
16 language, to attend schools and churches offered in their
17 language, to practice their customs, to be able to call
18 themselves Macedonians, and to be granted all the civil and
19 human rights required by international law; and be it further
 
20     RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be presented to
21 the President and Vice President of the United States, to the
22 Speaker of the House of Representatives, to the Majority Leader
23 of the Senate, and to each member of the Illinois Congressional
24 Delegation.
