SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with sadness of the death of Drew Schmidt of Godfrey on August 9, 2005; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Schmidt was born June 13, 1985, in Alton, to Tom and Sue (Chiolero) Schmidt of Godfrey; he loved all sports and played football, basketball, and baseball at Marquette Catholic High School, where he graduated in 2004; he especially loved basketball and was the point guard on Marquette's record back-to-back 26-win seasons; he also played Legion baseball and was a member of the Alton Junior Legion team that won Nationals; and

WHEREAS, He had a passion for his country and pursued a career in criminal justice at Culver Stockton, where he was on the dean's list; he hoped to someday be in the FBI; he also loved fishing, all kinds of music - especially country, the Cardinals, and the Rams; and

WHEREAS, Most of all, he loved being with his friends, of whom he had many; he was blessed by having a close-knit group of special friends; and

WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his material great-grandparents, Benjamin and Emma Stearns and Thomas and Marcella Chiolero; and his paternal great-grandparents, Leo and Florence Schmidt and Arthur and Elizabeth Brooks; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Drew Schmidt is felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his parents; his sister, Emily Schmidt; his brother, Adam Schmidt; his maternal grandparents, David and Martha Chiolero; his paternal grandparents, Jerry and Bonnie Schmidt; his maternal aunts and uncles, Kathy and Gary Abner, Leanne and Gene Ridolfi, Lisa and Bruce Deall, and Robert Chiolero; his paternal aunts and uncles, Jim and Pam Schmidt, LeAnn and Ric Johns, and Rob and Janie Schmidt; his special cousins, Sarah, Rachel, and David Abner, Gena, Laura, and Katherine Ridolfi, Matt, Megan, and Meredith Deall, Allison and Matt Schmidt, Frank, Mary, Andrea, and Joe Scaduto, Katie and Michael Wuellner, Dustin, Kellen, Cassie, and Larren Johns, and Christopher, Johnathan, and Andrew Schmidt; and his special aunts, Betty Sue Stearns and Charlotte Long; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Drew Schmidt and extend our sincerest condolences to his family, friends, and community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to his family as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
