HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the State of Illinois learned with sadness of the death of John Lee "Johnny" Armistead on January 27, 2006; and

WHEREAS, He was born to Lee and Louise Armistead on April 3, 1942, in Kilmichael, Mississippi; he was the youngest child of two siblings, and his older brother Leon Armistead (Janice) preceded him in death; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Armistead moved to Chicago with his parents when he very young; he joined Zion Hill Baptist Church, where he was baptized and accepted Christ at an early age; in 2005 he joined Truth and Deliverance International Ministries under the leadership of Apostle John T. Abercrombie; and

WHEREAS, He attended Farragut High School and went on to Triton College, where he received his certificate; and

WHEREAS, When Mr. Armistead was eighteen, he met Aubretta Duff, and they later united in holy matrimony; she was the love of his life, and they were inseparable until his death; and

WHEREAS, He worked for Brach's Candy Company for 31 years until his retirement in 2004; while working he received many awards; he was a motivational speaker, supervisor, and member of the safety team; and

WHEREAS, He was the ultimate entertainer with wife Aubretta, and he planned many events involving family and friends; he was also a special part of the 4600 West Adams block club party; each year he looked forward to getting old school and new school together on those special Saturdays; everyone was invited (whether you lived on the block or not), and he barbecued non-stop to assure everyone did not go without eating; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Armistead loved his children and grandchildren; during the summer, he spent many days and evenings sitting on his porch on West Adams, watching over his children, and later, grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, The passing of John Lee "Johnny" Armistead has been deeply felt by many, especially his wife, Aubretta; his children, Kimberly, Felicia (Joe), April, Lapricka (Chris), John Jr., Christopher, Heather, and Ebony; his grandchildren, Ericka, Eric, Andrea, Tia, Tiwan, Diamond, Jalen, Dakota, Darious, Jamari, Jatavious, Kejohnae, Kaylen, Jeremy, Adrienne, Sean, and Jahiem; his godsisters, Lillian and Lily Ruth; his aunts, Addie and Ella (Edward); his uncle, James (Lenora); and his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved him dearly; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of John Lee "Johnny" Armistead, and we extend our deepest sympathy to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to his family as an expression of our sincerest condolences.
