HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate the Pikeland Community School eighth-grade girls basketball team, the Lady Braves, on the occasion of winning the 2023 Illinois Elementary School Association (IESA) Class 8-3A State Girls Basketball Championship; and

WHEREAS, The Lady Braves defeated Germantown Hills Middle School 39 to 20, making the team state champions for the second year in a row; and

WHEREAS, The Lady Braves also had their second perfect season in a row, finishing 27-0 last year and 28-0 this year, winning every game by at least 8 points; and

WHEREAS, The Lady Braves reached the state finals after defeating Teutopolis Junior High School 42 to 19 and Channahon Junior High School 40 to 13; and

WHEREAS, The Lady Braves coaching staff includes Head Coach Jimmy Sanderson, Assistant Coach Frank McCartney, and Assistant Coach Matt Sealock; and

WHEREAS, The Lady Braves include Mattelyn Burton, Lincoln McCartney, Reese Ramsey, Paige Willman, Bailey Hill, Natalie Capps, Elle Sanderson, Tinley Ruzich, Libby Kearns, Kinlee Griggs, Jaylynn Grimsley, Payton Martin, and Megan Heffington; and

WHEREAS, The Lady Braves have demonstrated an exceptional work ethic and a devotion to the game of basketball over the course of the last two seasons; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the Pikeland Community School eighth-grade girls basketball team, the Lady Braves, on winning the 2023 Illinois Elementary School Class 8-3A State Girls Basketball Championship, and we commend the players on their tremendous season; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to the coaching staff and players of the Lady Braves as an expression of our esteem and respect.
