HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The skilled trades keep our country running and are essential in keeping our communities safe and healthy; with the projected job growth and financial freedom provided, the trades can provide an engaging and satisfying career path; and

WHEREAS, While the trades have been a male-dominated field historically, more and more women are starting to join the industry, and progress has been made toward greater gender equality in these industries; and

WHEREAS, Tradeswomen have had a positive impact on the local economy, the workforce, and community development in the State of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, It is important to inspire young women and girls to consider careers in skilled trades and to offer opportunities for STEM education and vocational training through DOL approved Apprenticeship Programs; and

WHEREAS, Tradeswomen Take Over Springfield on May 16, 2023 is the first annual Illinois Tradeswomen Recruitment and Lobby Day, an event designed to shine a spotlight on women in trades typically dominated by men, to celebrate women around our State who work with tools, and to foster a sense of community and solidarity among tradeswomen and the broader Illinois community; and

WHEREAS, Tradeswomen Take Over Springfield is a day to learn about the building and construction trades and the various job opportunities available to all women across the State of Illinois and is open to women of all ages and all experience levels who are interested in strong/equitable pay, apprentice training, and the support of a union contract; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we commend the women in trades who are breaking down barriers, demonstrating exceptional skill and dedication, and serving as role models for others; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we encourage ongoing efforts to support tradeswomen, including future events, educational programs, and initiatives that promote equal opportunities in union construction trades; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we express support for skilled trades and the need for a diverse and inclusive workforce to meet the demands of a growing economy; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we encourage collaboration among businesses, labor organizations, and educational institutions to create pathways for women to enter and thrive in trades; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we congratulate the organizers, sponsors, and participants of the Tradeswomen Take Over Springfield event for their efforts and contributions in making the event a success; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Tradeswomen Take Over Springfield organizers as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
