| 1 | | SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION
| 2 | | WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General
| 3 | | Assembly pays honor and respect to the truly great individuals
| 4 | | who have served our country and, in doing so, have made the
| 5 | | ultimate sacrifice for our nation; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Cpl. Tommy Neal Miller was born on July 19, 1949 | 7 | | and was a native of Bethalto in Madison County; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Cpl. Miller enlisted in the United States Marine | 9 | | Corps and served during the Vietnam War; he began his tour of | 10 | | duty on June 10, 1968; his specialty was Mortarman, and he was | 11 | | attached to 3rd Marine Division, 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines, E | 12 | | Company; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Cpl. Miller was killed in action by hostile | 14 | | forces on February 25, 1969 in South Vietnam, Quang Tri | 15 | | province; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Cpl. Miller's commendations include the Purple | 17 | | Heart, the Combat Action Ribbon, the National Defense Service | 18 | | Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, | 19 | | the Marine Corps Presidential Unit Citation, the Vietnam | 20 | | Gallantry Cross, the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, and the | 21 | | Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Cpl. Miller is honored on the Vietnam Veterans | 2 | | Memorial in Washington, DC; his name is inscribed at VVM Wall, | 3 | | Panel 31w, Line 53; therefore, be it
| 4 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | 5 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF | 6 | | REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate Illinois | 7 | | Route 140 as it travels through Meadowbrook as the "Cpl. Tommy | 8 | | N. Miller Memorial Highway"; and be it further | 9 | | RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation | 10 | | is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with
| 11 | | State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs
| 12 | | giving notice of the name the "Cpl. Tommy N. Miller Memorial | 13 | | Highway"; and be it further
| 14 | | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | 15 | | presented to the family of Cpl. Miller and the Secretary of the | 16 | | Illinois Department of Transportation.
