| 1 | | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate Larry Suffredin on the | 4 | | occasion of his retirement as Cook County Commissioner; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, During his 20-year tenure as a County | 6 | | Commissioner, Commissioner Suffredin sponsored ordinances and | 7 | | resolutions that codified county laws for the first time, | 8 | | saved the old county hospital building from demolition, | 9 | | created the successful Independent Health and Hospital Board, | 10 | | gave Cook County an assault weapons ban, raised the minimum | 11 | | wage, changed the leadership structure for the Juvenile | 12 | | Temporary Detention Center, created an Independent Inspector | 13 | | General, and
created an Eviction and Mortgage Foreclosures | 14 | | Court protocol to protect people's homes; he co-sponsored an | 15 | | amendment to the Cook County Human Rights Ordinance redefining | 16 | | "source of income" to include all lawful sources of income, | 17 | | including housing choice vouchers; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, As a forest preserve commissioner, Commissioner | 19 | | Suffredin sponsored ordinances and resolutions that required | 20 | | children to wear bike helmets,
created the Next Century | 21 | | Conservation Council, expanded land restoration, encouraged an | 22 | | expansion of the Master Stewart program, and
expanded the role | 23 | | of trained volunteers; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Commissioner Suffredin wrote by-laws adopted by | 2 | | the suburban commissioners that reformed the procedures for | 3 | | selecting METRA, PACE, and RTA directors, which led to a Cook | 4 | | County resident becoming the METRA chair for the first time; | 5 | | and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Commissioner Suffredin's leadership and | 7 | | collaborative efforts led to bipartisan support from the Cook | 8 | | County Board of Commissioners on ethics reform ordinances; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Commissioner Suffredin was also integral in the | 10 | | 2020 redistricting process; therefore, be it
| 11 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 12 | | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 13 | | we congratulate Larry Suffredin on his retirement as Cook | 14 | | County Commissioner and wish him the best in all his future | 15 | | endeavors; and be it further
| 16 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 17 | | presented to Commissioner Suffredin as a symbol of our respect | 18 | | and esteem.
