SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
105 ILCS 5/10-20.83 new
105 ILCS 5/34-18.78 new

    Amends the School Code. Requires a school board to adopt a policy to ensure that the parent or guardian of a student is provided with an opportunity to review the curricula and learning material used in the student's classroom at any point during the school year if the parent or guardian requests to review the curricula and learning material. Requires the policy to be published in the student handbook and on the school district's Internet website if one is maintained. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning education.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Sections
510-20.83 and 34-18.78 as follows:
 
6    (105 ILCS 5/10-20.83 new)
7    Sec. 10-20.83. Parental review of learning material.
8    (a) A school board shall adopt a policy to ensure that the
9parent or guardian of a student is provided with an
10opportunity to review the curricula and learning material used
11in the student's classroom at any point during the school year
12if the parent or guardian requests to review the curricula and
13learning material.
14    (b) The policy adopted under subsection (a) must be
15published in the student handbook and on the school district's
16Internet website if one is maintained.
