HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Bobra Jean Walker, who passed away on July 24, 2020; and

WHEREAS, Bobra Walker was born in Chulahoma, Mississippi to Bobbie Ellis Sr. and Mattie Ella Dean Falkner on January 5, 1939; during her childhood, she committed to her faith at an early age and was a member of Mt. Gilead C.M.E. Church in Chulahoma, where she attended Sunday school and was a member of the church choir; she also was a member of the 4-H Club; she received her education through the Marshall County School District and completed her high school education at Mississippi Industrial College in Holly Springs, Mississippi; she married Landon Walker Jr. on February 1, 1959; and

WHEREAS, Bobra Walker and her family settled in Harvey in 1964 and became members of Christ Temple Baptist Church in Markham; she was a homemaker for the majority of her life but eventually pursued employment at Woolworth, Service Merchandise, and Falkner Bumper; and

WHEREAS, Bobra Walker was one of her family's historians; she remembered birthdays, anniversaries, family history, and other milestones; she possessed amazing management and organizational skills; she was a gifted cook and baker and a great hostess; her home was always immaculate, and her kitchen was always open to family and friends, especially during holidays with Christmas being her favorite; she had a "green thumb" that she shared with many, passing on her knowledge for growing her beautiful annual flowers, her house plants, or vegetable gardens; and

WHEREAS, Bobra Walker was a sports enthusiast, especially when it came to baseball and football; she was proud of her family and their accomplishments, especially in education; she cherished her family deeply and enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; she exuded grace, sophistication, class, and style; she loved life and was a generous, devoted, and caring individual; and

WHEREAS, Bobra Walker was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Gladys Young; and her brothers, Edgar, Bobbie Jr., Moses, and Larry Falkner Sr.; and

WHEREAS, Bobra Walker is survived by her husband of 61 years, Landon; her children, Brenda Mason (David), Ricky Walker, Perry Walker (Iris), Kerry L. Walker (Andria), and Kanefus Walker; her siblings, Mattie Walker, Urma Walker (McEwen), Ella Washington, Wheelock Patrick, Kent Falkner (Jackie), and Sarah Summerville; her brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Azelle Alexander, Mary Falkner, Deborah (Orita) Walker, and Eldridge Walker; her grandchildren, DeLandon Mason (Carmen), Ricky D. Walker, Ameythyst Smith (Kyle), DeResha Browne, Samuel Jackson, Eric Hooks (Christina), DeVonn Walker, Amber Mason, Kerry T. Walker, Chanelle Randell (Brandon), Marcellus Walker, and Perry Sibby; her great-grandchildren, Kristion, Unique, Camryn, Kai, Anthony, Wynton, Hannah, Ryan, Kourtney, Nicholas, Ca'Lia, Braeden, Darrell, Lily, Ker'ron, Evan, Mykel, Myles, Makenzie, Kyrie, and Kymir; her special cousins, Beatrice Miller-Peete and Bobbie Moton; her special friends, Francis and Sherry Harvey; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Bobra Jean Walker and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Bobra Walker as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
